Commodore's Locker, I had a great time in Florida golfing but was unable to go fishing on the Atlantic side as seas were turned up as much as seventeen feet with the least being five feet. Some of the member's emails urged me to try anyway. I wonder why? I want to thank Al Hodsdon for presiding at the November meeting and Gary Cran for taking over as interim secretary. Ivan Hills was crewing for Dick Noyes in Florida. Al sent an email stating that guest speaker KC Heyniger kept everyone spellbound with his talk about the German sailing vessel Seeder used as a raider during WWI. Thank you KC. Mike Sodano has accepted the role as club activities chair with support from Dick Bentzel. Thank you both for volunteering your time. Members are urged to volunteer. A check off section is located on the 2004 membership form. I hope see you at the holiday party and promise (or at least try or at least think about it) not to have many special gifts for selected members.
Sincerely, Bruce Stedman
MINUTES:RYC Meeting Oct 19, 2003 at ACF 1. The meeting was called to order at 3:00pm by Vice-Commodore Al Hodsdon. 2. Mike Sodano moved and Neil Woodside seconded the acceptance of the minutes of the previous meeting as recorded. Unanimous approval. 3. Gary Cran presented the Treasurer's Report indicating that the balance in the Operating Fund is $12,565.98 and the balance in the Reserve Fund is $6,483.36 as of this date. Income for the year is expected to be about equal to budget while expenses are expected to be about $1,000 below budget so there will be a surplus this year. 3. David Jones moved and Mike Sodano seconded acceptance of the Treasurer's Report as presented. Unanimous approval. 4. VC Al reminded members to make their reservations for the upcoming Christmas Party. 5. VC Al informed the members that: Mike Sodano has volunteered to serve as Chair of the Activities Committee and Dick Bentzel has volunteered to assist Mike. VC Al thanked both members for their service to the Club and their names will be added to the information on the membership form and elsewhere. 6. A new membership form has been prepared for use this year and asked everyone to be on the lookout for it and to respond in a timely fashion so as to minimize club cost of mailings and assist in the efficient preparation of the membership booklet. 7. The Club has sanctioned participation in the Gloucester-Rockland race again this year on a similar basis as last year. 8. The ACF is considering a Sunday afternoon regatta for Opti's and 420's to be held next summer as an extension of the Community Sailing Program and has commitment to provide race committee service for this event 9. The business portion of the meeting was adjourned at 4:00pm followed by an interesting presentation by K. C. Heyniger of the ACF on the tale of a sailing vessel used by Germany as a raider during WWI.
Respectfully submitted, Gary Cran
