Commodore's Message:

Everyone had a wonderful time at the annual RYC Lobster Picnic. The weather cooperated with the fog burning off and the sun shinning brightly just as I arrived. A few even thought I had something to do with it. No. But it was fun for me to hear it.

RYC club volunteers had the Rockport Boat Club looking great. Propane cookers (for excited lobsters) and the very large charcoal grill were being readied. The tables were covered and set while the food was being prepared for serving in the kitchen are. Thank you all for your most generous help and all who helped clean the club area after the picnic.

This administrative year should prove to be exciting. The race committee is looking at changing the format of the PHRF from Tuesday to Saturday while keeping the Etchel fleet racing on Tuesday. The cruise committee is looking for a few members to help plan another exciting 2004 season with a few great destinations and NO fog will be permitted.

The club is still looking for one or more members to head the activities committee. This job is important as it helps to fully plan club functions. Without this committee minimal (rather than complete) planning is placed on club activities such as the holiday party at the Samoset, the spring picnic, and the lobster picnic. This position requires only a few hours per month.

It should be noted that ANY request for either in-house or other organizations seeking to use the RYC name or help of the RYC in any way must submit requests to the RYC Executive Committee between now and the March executive committee for club consideration for activities during the 2004 boating season. This request may be done in person or in writing.

Have a great fall season. Remember to pat your boat at least once a month and tell it how much you miss not being on the water and then slap it hard and say how disappointed you are as it is such a high maintenance item.

Sincerely,

Bruce Stedman

MINUTES: RYC Meeting September 27, 2003

Rockport Boat Club: The meeting was held in conjunction with the club Lobster Picnic. Approximately 70 persons were present and of these approximately 55 are voting members.

1. The Commodore brought the meeting to order at 5:45pm and requested a motion from the floor to accept the minutes of the March 16 Members Meeting. So moved by David Hoy and seconded by Al Hodsdon. The "ayes" have it.

2. The Treasurer's Report: Gary Cran advised that RYC financial condition was sound with $16,800 in the checking account and $6,500 in the reserve savings account. The checking account will deplete to $10,000-11,000 by year-end. Responding to questions from the floor Gary said that our condition compares favorably with last year. Also, that although the Dinghy Float piling issue is not yet resolved, reserve money is allocated to the project. The Commodore requested a motion to accept the Financial Report - proposed by Doug Pope and seconded by Maryjane Shiverick. The "ayes" have it.

3. Commodore Bruce expressed the Club's gratitude to John LeMole for his support of, and for use of JUKI as committee boat for, the Tuesday race series. A new member, Jack Callaghan, has volunteered with his 28' lobster boat type yacht for the 2004 season.

4. Bruce presented awards to Val Bemis for volunteer time at the Tuesday races and Dave Hoy for press releases.

5. Gary Cran then presented trophies, as follows:

Solstice Race:

David Jones and crew on Elvis Tuna (first);

Al Hodsdon and crew on Sea Jab (second);

Dave Hoy and crew on Wyanoke (third).

Cruisers PHRF:

Doug Pope and crew on Walkabout (first);

Jim Cuthbertson and crew on Rumpleteazer (second);

Ken Priest/Ian Kopp and crew on Extra Beat (third).

Etchels:

Eliot Lowe and crew on Roundtable (first);

Jeff Dinse and crew on Totalitarian Regime(second);

Dave Jones and crew on Elvis Tuna (third).

Sportsmanship Trophy: Doug Pope

Mermaid Award: Eliot Lowe

6. Mike Sodano, as Chairman of the Nominating Committee, presented the nominees for 2003/4:

Commodore - Bruce Stedman;

Vice Commodore - Al Hodsdon;

Rear Commodore - Maryjane Shiverick;

Secretary- Ivan Hills;

Treasurer - Gary Cran.

Mike asked three times for further nominations from the floor. None received! He then presented the slate for a single vote, which was unanimous.

7. Other Business: Maryjane asked for volunteers for the Cruise Committee. Interested members should contact her. David Hoy asked for "another body" for the Saturday races.

There being no other business the Commodore asked to close the meeting. A motion was proposed by Mike Sodano and seconded by Neil Woodside.

Respectfully submitted,
