In the newsletter is information from Dave Jones. Some Tuesday evening races need committee boat crew. Volunteer please contact David at 236-7048. This is fun job and an opportunity to view the race close up. The list of openings is on page two.

Attached to the newsletter is a Rockland Yacht Club Captain's RESPONSIBILITY WAIVER. If you plan to race in a RYC sponsored event fill out the form and send to David Jones before the first race, scheduled for June 10. His address is on the form.

Adult Sailing Lessons: ACF has a program that runs for four weeks from 5:30 to dusk on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Call ACF at 594-1800.

MINUTES of RYC Member's Meeting at the Rockport Boat Club, May 10, 2003

Attendance: 51 members

1. Mike Sodano made a motion to fund the RYC web site up to $500 for the next year. Rene Hebert seconded the motion. The "ayes" have it.
2. Gerritt Vander Veer requested that the Rockport Boat Club facility be considered for the RYC Lobster Picnic September 27, 2003. A short discussion followed with positive response from members present. "The RBC has a great location with excellent facilities".
3. Bruce presented Effort Awards to Gary Cran for producing the membership directory (Gary has an interesting story that goes along with the directory), John LeMole for his help and use of his vessel as RYC Committee boat at the Tuesday races, and Tay Vaughan for maintaining and updating the web site.
4. Mary Jane Shiverick invited all members to join in the cruise events this season.
5. Toni Vander Veer reminded members to get clothing forms to her.
6. Mike Sodano made a motion to end the meeting; seconded by Tom Latta. The "ayes" have it.

After the races we will gather for a BBQ at Atlantic Challenge. Val Bemis has again graciously offered to provide the food for a nominal fee. Please bring your own drinks.

FEES:

1. Rockland Yacht Club Membership- It is necessary for one member in each boat to be a member of the club, that is, $80 for a single member or $100 for a family.
2. John Lemole- maintenance and gas for the committee boat for the season is $30 per boat.

Membership check should be made out to the RYC, the other to John Lemole. Send both to me:

Boats not paid up by first race will not be tallied in the season's scoring. If you have not paid either of these, kindly do so promptly.

Captain's Responsibility

The safety of a yacht and her crew is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the captain who must ensure that the yacht is sound, seaworthy and manned by an experienced crew who are physically fit. The captain must further ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and stowed and that the crew knows where it is and how to use it. It is the sole and exclusive responsibility of the captain whether or not to start or continue a race.

I hereby certify that I have read the above-entitled Captain's Responsibility and that the yacht hereby entered conforms in all respects and I agree that neither I nor any of my crew members shall hold the Rockland Yacht Club and/or its officers responsible for accidents, injuries and personal or property damage occurring during the race or related activities.
