June 2003 Newsletter Commodore's Message: I want to welcome aboard new club members: Andrew & Kristen Lanzer sailing CAYENNE, a J-24 out of Rockland. In the newsletter is information from Dave Jones. Some Tuesday evening races need committee boat crew. Volunteer please contact David at 236-7048. This is fun job and an opportunity to view the race close up. The list of openings is on page two. Attached to the newsletter is a Rockland Yacht Club Captain's RESPONSIBILITY WAIVER. If you plan to race in a RYC sponsored event fill out the form and send to David Jones before the first race, scheduled for June 10. His address is on the form. Again have a great season. Moorings Available: At this date Atlantic Challenge Foundation has moorings for rent. These moorings are heavy duty and available for the 2003 season. The ACF also has space available for laying up boats at the end of the season. Those interested should contact the ACF at 594-1800. Adult Sailing Lessons: ACF has a program that runs for four weeks from 5:30 to dusk on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Call ACF at 594-1800.

Rockland Yacht Club Race Committee News From David Jones: Here is the schedule for the 2003 Tuesday evening racing season. Please contact me regarding your date to assist John Lemole on the Committee boat. It is necessary to send two knowledgeable people to set up the course and record finish times. You will meet John at his office, Gemini Canvas on Tillson Ave. at 4 PM on your designated day. The following is the schedule of races:
June 10 Doug Pope After the races we will gather for a BBQ at Atlantic Challenge. Val Bemis has again graciously offered to provide the food for a nominal fee. Please bring your own drinks. FEES:
1. Rockland Yacht Club Membership- It is necessary for one member in each boat to be a member of the club, that is, $80 for a single member or $100 for a family.
Membership check should be made out to the RYC, the other to John Lemole. Send both to me:

RYC Club officers have formulated the following Waiver to be signed by the captain of each boat racing in any RYC sponsored event and forwarded to:
ROCKLAND YACHT CLUB WAIVER: The safety of a yacht and her crew is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the captain who must ensure that the yacht is sound, seaworthy and manned by an experienced crew who are physically fit. The captain must further ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and stowed and that the crew knows where it is and how to use it. It is the sole and exclusive responsibility of the captain whether or not to start or continue a race. I hereby certify that I have read the above-entitled Captain's Responsibility and that the yacht hereby entered conforms in all respects and I agree that neither I nor any of my crew members shall hold the Rockland Yacht Club and/or its officers responsible for accidents, injuries and personal or property damage occurring during the race or related activities.
