We have a representative of the Coast Guard Auxiliary coming to address the Club. It will be nice to hear about their problems and achievements, and to hear how 9/11 changed things for the CGA. Bring hors d’oeuvres for the post Chit-Chat. X-Com, 2:00 p.m.: Come early. We have several items to discuss. Commodore CommentsWe have been approached by the Camden Yacht Club to share a fun weekend of events. The date that fits their schedule is July 23-24. Cruises and racers are challenged to come up with ideas for the weekend. Get these ideas back to the respective chairmen so we can put together the details. Get Well MembersToni Vander Veer missed the banquet because of surgery. She is coming along fine but not playing tennis yet. She thanks the Club for the lovely flowers. Gary Cran was laid low with the flu. Take 2 aspirin and send me $5 in the mail. Minutes of Christmas BanquetThere were 38 dedicated boaters at the banquet. The food was good and the company was jovial. Ivan read some special rules of flag etiquette and adlibbed the tales of sailing on the Thames as only he could. We had a special program from Bruce Stedman. His quiz questions got us all thinking. Our table won a flare gun. I tried to pass it off to others at the table but the comment came back that I needed it more because I was always on the rocks. The laughter was irrepressible. Dam that Brackett’s Channel. Another event was the Yankee swap. Mike Sodano did a great job with this and with setting up the Banquet. Nice job, Mike. However, the most notable gift was a mermaid bumper all properly dressed by M.J. Shiverick – that is until Mike got a hold of her and oops, off went the dress. Again, irrepressible laugher and Mike was appropriately embarrassed. Rumor MillWalkabout is planning on racing in the Bermuda 1-2. Blue Bird is planning to go to the Azores and back to the Caribbean. Candide (Dick and Maria) are planning to sail to Norfolk, VA and job the Carib 1500 to the BVI’s. Let us know what the scuttlebutt is around the wharfs. 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
