The Solstice Celebration - The Race - June 20

RYC celebrates the longest day of the year with all day activities - the Solstice Race and Dinner. The race, with a planned elapsed time of 3-4 hours, will follow a course in the West Penobscot Bay. After the race, all club members are invited to the Solstice Dinner at the RYC Clubhouse. The Solstice Dinner was known as the Prgressive Dinner in past years.

Instructions to Racers:

• Each boat is responsible for confirming latitude/longitude coordinates. Additionally, reports
  indicate that the U.S. Coast Guard has changed some of the marks in the southern portion of West Penobscot Bay.
• Please note that the course mark descriptions are based on the year 2000 Chart #13302.
• All boats must have either a watch with a second hand, GPS, or a stop watch if
  possible. At the pre-race meeting, all captains will synchronize their watches to GPS time so that accurate finish times can be recorded.
• The race start will be called on VHF Channel 68 (or an alternate channel identified at pre-race meeting) and, at that time, all captains will start their stop watches.
• As boats finish the race, they will be responsible for recording their own finish times per GPS time or for providing their elapsed time per their stop watch. These times can be reported over the radio or can be e-mailed in by noon, Monday.

The Course:

• Start: Between Rockland Breakwater Light and Can “1”
• Finish: Between Rockland Breakwater Light and Can “1”
• At the pre-race meeting, a course will be announced based on forecasted wind directions and speed. Course marks will be limited to the list below and the course will be announced based on the letters associated with each mark. If weather conditions warrant, the race
  course may be modified.

  A) Can “1” – Rockland Harbor
  B) RW “PB” Mo(A) Gong – central West Penobscot Bay
  C) R “8” Whistle – off Robinson Rock
  D) RW “RO” Bell – off Rockport Harbor
  E) R “2” Bell – off Camden Harbor
  F) G “3” Bell – off Monroe Island
  G) RW “PA” Mo(A) Gong – southern end of West Penobscot Bay
  H) RW “TBI” Mo(A) Whistle – off Two Bush Channel
  I) RW “WP” Mo(A) Bell – north of Matinicus Island and Zephyr Ledges
  J) R “26” Gong – off Fiddler Ledge
  

The Starting Time:

• Pre-Race Meeting: 10:00am, RYC Clubhouse
• Race start: 11:30 am

Registration: To enter the Solstice Race, please complete the RYC Racing Registration Form and email it to racing@rocklandyc.org.

Communications:All racers must monitor VHF 68 (or alternate channel identified at the pre-race meeting).

The Solstice Celebration - The Dinner

This years event will be as last year... a pot luck dinner. Plan to arrive at the Clubhouse 3:30 PM on Saturday, June 20.  Please contact Mike Sodano at 594-5272 if you plan to attend.

Please plan to bring an appetizer/salad, veggie, bread, protein or dessert.
