Italian Night & Fund-Raising Auction - Saturday, April 18th, 5 PM
Read about the Italian Night in the Event Highlight section below. Check out the web gallery, too.
Host: Helen Kuhl
Join us for the first RYC social event of the season. Envision checkered table cloths, a candlelit clubhouse, and a gastronomic delight of antipasto, lasagna, and other favorite Italian recipes furnished by our members. A great ambiance for the sharing of winter adventures and summer dreams of fun times yet to come. And, in addition, we’ll have two fund-raising auctions – one “silent” and one “live.”
What to Bring
- Tell us about your favorite Italian recipe for an antipasto, salad, lasagna, appetizer, or a dessert. It can be a simple as garlic bread or as special as Tiramasu. Contact your host, so we can keep track of who is bringing what.
- BYOB … dinnerware and glasses will be provided by the club.
- Bring one or two items for the Silent Auction. It will help if you bring your Silent Auction contributions to the clubhouse on Friday evening, April 17. Or, give your donation to your host prior to the 18th.
Suggestions for Silent Auction Items : Framed picture, a painting, jewelry, gift certificate, tools, and certificate for a home made pie or cake to be made at a later date, lamp, live plant, knick knack, serving dish or platter, boat apron, a desirable book, something you received for Christmas and didn’t care for…… Please do not donate the following……exercise equipment, electronics unless you KNOW it works and someone will want it, ski equipment, or stuff that you should really take to the dump.
- Invite a guest to introduce them to real RYC camaraderie.
How Does the Silent Auction Work
Silent auction items will be numbered. In front of each item will be a container marked with the same number.
During the Cocktail Party, you will have the opportunity to purchase tickets. For a five dollar bill, you will get an arm’s length of tickets, so bring a pocketful of five dollar bills and win more! The more tickets, the better your chances. To bid on an item, simply put one or more tickets in its numbered container. During dessert, a winning ticket will be drawn for each item.
How Does the Live Auction Work
After the treasures of the Silent Auction are awarded amid fun and laughs, we will auction off 3-5 bigger-ticket items. Enthusiastic bidding wars will be encouraged! If you wish to contribute an item to the Live Auction, please let Helen know as soon as possible.
Suggestions For the live auction: A day sail on your boat including cocktails and lunch or dinner, a gift certificate from a Marine supply, an Owls Head airplane ride, Two tickets for a show or movie, An original painting, A decorative mirror, a large plant, A home made dinner for 6 at their house…( perhaps given by two members), an antique, or something of value that a sailor might really like to own.
Don’t miss the fun!OP
Event Highlights
The RYC Auction/Dinner fund raiser of Saturday, April 18th was a fun time that will keep on giving enjoyment to some very lucky people of the 57 members and guests that attended. For example, there is a Sunday River ski week end for two to be enjoyed this coming ski season; two lobster dinners at the Ocean’s Edge; two pizza night dinners also at the Ocean’s Edge; a cocktail party accompanied by live Harp music by our very own Carlotta Miller; the painting “Oar” will be enjoyed in the buyer’s home, along with another original painting “Fruit Basket” purchased by another member; a beautiful Forsythia bush will beautify one couple’s yard for years to come. And a few other members will be hearing a brass bell ring and wind chimes blowing in the summer breeze. One lucky member will have smooth sailing by owning the framed Penobscot Bay Chart he won with his bid.
Special thanks go out to Al Hodsdon for his notable talent as the night’s auctioneer.
The above mentioned were only “the live” auction items. There is also a lot more enjoyment to come from the wonderful silent auction donations that were bid on and won.
The Lasagnas, salads, and bread were delicious…. The appetizers and desserts were over the top………. Members, you out did yourselves for this event…. We loved it!!
Thanks to all of you who donated, helped decorate, cooked, hauled, fixed, set up, served, helped with the auction, the 50/50 chance and clean up for a night of fun and laughs. .
We thank Nancy Mason Allen of Hair Studio, who loaned us the Italian decorations, Mike Fisher Caterers whose warming oven kept the lasagna hot, The Rockport Garden Club for the use of their tables, and The Atlantic Challenge for the chairs.
So, now, how did we do on the financial side of the night? The silent auction, live auction, 50/50 chance and fridge purchases brought in a whopping $1187, (after expenses of $45). The proceeds will go into RYC treasury where it will be a big help with club expenses.
Thank you everyone for helping make this evening so much fun and such a success.
