Ladies Sailing Weekend - June 13-14
Join us for any or all of the Ladies Sailing Weekend activities!
It's more than about learning to sail! It's about learning to have a better time cruising, becoming more confident on board the boat, having fun.... and maybe even reducing the on-board scream factor.
| Who is the event host? | MJ Shiverick on Webfoot |
| Who are the discussion leaders? | Julie Palm and Moira Bentzel. Julie has sailed extensively and led seminars on Ocean Sailing for the Cruising Rally Association that runs the Caribbean 1500 Rally. Moira has spent two years with her husband cruising the Caribbean and down to South America. |
| How do I sign up? | Email MJ or call her at 207-293-3438 or just show up! |
| What happens on Saturday morning? | We’ll gather for a Ladies Seminar at the RYC Clubhouse. We’ll share our combined knowledge and answer your questions. We’ll talk about the essential elements of cruising --- the sky, the wind, the boat, the destination, and the provisions. 9:00 - 9:30: Introductions and coffee. Be prepared to talk about something on board you can't live without! 9:30 - 10:00 Fears and Discomforts, and what to do about them! (This includes seasickness, sea/weather conditions, managing the skipper when the boat is on its ear, what to be sure to know if something happens to the skipper.) 10:00 - 10:15 Break 10:15 - 11:00 Provisioning and outfitting the boat for fun, comfort, and safety. (Bring a favorite recipe with less than 5 ingredients.) 11:00 - 12:00 Reading the sky and navigational charts |
| What about lunch? | Bring a bag lunch. There will be an Informal Roundtable Discussion over lunch. Possible subjects: mechanics of sailing, sail trim, and what makes a boat go. Come with your questions! This is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow RYC members better and plan adventures for the rest of the summer. |
| And in the afternoon? | If the weather cooperates, we will sail in the afternoon on member boats. If it doesn’t, we’ll just keep on talking together. |
| What about dinner? | At 5PM, we’ll ask “The Men” to join us for cocktails and a Pot Luck dinner. Bring a dish of your choice. |
| What happens on Sunday | On Sunday, those ladies who wish to sail again can join us on one or more of our boats for the day. |
As they say at Womanship …. No yelling, just learning!.... and fun.P
