Event Highlights from 2009
The day started out rainy and foggy with the wind coming out of the Northeast! This was not particularly appealing to many potential racing cruisers who were looking forward to a very informal, sunny, lovely sail. However, six or more boats with hardy, ambitious crews did race and made it to Pulpit Harbor in time for lunch. The reluctant crew on WEBFOOT bagged the race, but motored to Pulpit, arriving in time to grab a mooring ahead of the racers. When the racers arrived and rafted with WEBFOOT, the sun and warmth returned, for a delightful lunch hour. The Rockland Yacht Club Executive Committee was well represented by the Commodore on SEA MONKEY, Vice Commodore on BADGER, Rear Commodore onĀ WEBFOOT, and Secretary/Web Master on SPIRITS. Also present were Steve and Jennie Pierce on SPIRITS, Tom and Kay, on UNC IV, and Camden Yacht Club yachts, CANTY, and another very lovely wooden yawl CUILAUN.
All boats gathered for a lined up start with main sail but no jib until after the start. The boats slowly drifted along until after an hour, one crew estimated that we would arrive at CYC in time for cocktail hour - the next day! With that, jibs were rolled and our iron horses enabled us to arrive at the yacht club in time.
By 5:30 PM, members from all three clubs arrived and were treated with wonderful hors d’oeuvres and an excellent dinner put on by SALT, a new catering group headquartered at the Camden Yacht Club.

After dinner, we were welcomed by Peter VanAlstine, CYC Commodore. He then turned the mike over to Alan MacDonald, RYC Commodore, and Tom Latta, RBC Commodore. Al Hodsdon then presented awards for the morning race to Pulpit Harbor, won by Paul Rogers on CANTY. SEA JAB was second and BADGER was third. Everyone received a coveted paper cup for participation. All in all, it was a very special event!
